Mostly because people always seem to think scientists are old men in white coats doing physics. We’re not, we’re just like you: with likes, dislikes, pets, ambitions, failures and.. importantly: advice to give.
I want you to be a scientist, I want you to love asking “why?” every day (Pro tip: this doesn’t work when arguing with mum or dad). Some people have never met a scientist, so have no idea what we do – Ta Dah! Here I am!

When I was young, the future seems very far and uncertain. I know I was interested in science, but not how much or that a career in science is possible. Joining I’m a Scientist gives me a chance to be a role model I never had as a child. I want to inspire you that a scientist career is not only possible, but also something you can do with your life. The contest also gives you a chance to learn a bit more science, which is important as we now use more science in our world than ever before. Finally, I enjoy online chatting a lot and I can talk to many of you at once during the contest, so it’s a no brainer for me!

I wanted to be a part of I’m a Scientist because I work in such a tiny specialism that very few people have ever heard of. If I can let lots of students know that my area exists, even if they don’t want to work in this area, then I’m doing my bit! It’s so important that school aged children know all the possibilities that are out there to help them make an informed decision about their future!!
Plus everyone expects a crazy old man in a lab coat, and that is definitely not me. I never set foot in the lab but I am still a scientist!
