      Oh gosh what a fabulous question! Well the word forensic actually derives from the Latin term forensis, which describes a group of people brought together to determine the facts of a case, so in this sense I suppose the Romans could be credited with its creation! At uni we were taught that forensics is “science in service of the law”. However, I suspect you’re referring to the likes of Edmond Locard? He set up the world’s first dedicated forensic lab in France in 1910 and created the phrase “every contact leaves a trace”…although historians argue that he didn’t actually say this 😉 This phrase is known as “Locard’s Exchange Principle” and forms the basis of CSI.
