Ah, here’s the fun bit – I don’t do research on cancer: I help go and find it – big difference. Research on cancer involves looking for ways to eradicate it, how it begins and spreads, looking for a better understanding of the disease.
I simply receive a sample from someone who suspects they have cancer and prepare it for a diagnosis. I will use the tools that researchers have developed (such as antibodies with dye on the end, which target a specific protein) to help the doctor answer: “Is this cancer and if so, what type?”
