      Yes, this does happen and maybe more frequently on intensive care than anywhere else in the hospital. This is because our patients are the very sickest and therefore are more likely to die. We have patients who cannot fight their illnesses anymore and we have patients who have unsurvivable injuries. It is very sad when we can’t save someone but it is important that we consider if people want to be saved and what their quality of life would be if we were to keep them alive on a machine. Lots of people don’t want this and would like to die naturally. We always respect and our patients and will do our best for them, even when they are dying.
