      It can be, yes, particularly in trace evidence analysis where you’re analysing microscopic samples. I use microscopes in my research to look at the fine detail in my cosmetic samples and also to focus the laser light onto specific areas so I know which bit I’m looking at. You also use microscopes in ballistic analysis to compare marks on bullets and cartridge cases to try and work out which gun might have fired it. They are also used in fibre and hair analysis.
